We have perused this work with much pleasure and profit, as it is Written by one who evidently speaks from the height of a large practical experience of operative midwifery and who moreover writes in a broad minded and judicious manner. Not only are the various operations of midwifery very fully and clparly discussed, but a considerable portion of the work is devoted to the consideration of the indications for the various operative measures, and the advantages and disadvantages of different methods of treatment are very fully and fairly dealt with. In discussing the treatment of face presentations the anther advises the expectant treatment in preference to routine interference, as givinc the more satisfactory result. Among the various methods of dealing with the after-coming head in breech presentations the importance of having the forceps always in readiness is laid stress on, and there is no doubt that this treatment is coining more and more into favour as its advantages over the other methods are coining to be
